  • Dongtan EcoCity 2010, China_ARUP
  • Dongtan is the first eco-city to be build in the world. It is located on the island of Chongming in the Yantze River. In collaboration with the Shangai Industrial Investment Corporation(SIIC), ARUP aimed on transforming Dongtan into a green city that will have minimal negative impact on the environment. Through sustainable design and planning, the city created will be self-sufficient, generating all its energy from renewable resources, growing all food and recycling all waste.

  • GuangMing Eco City
  • Award-winning architectural-urban designer and UCL Bartlett academic, CJ Lim, has made it to the final three in a competition to build a new eco-city in China. Lim has beaten off stiff competition from some of the world's largest and most prestigious firms to make it to this stage. Seventy firms submitted entries for the competition in November 2006, which were then whittled down to five and now to three ¨C the winner will be announced next week.

  • South Korea's Incheon Songdo IBD Eco City
  • Songdo IBD is being developed on 1,500 acres of reclaimed land in South Korea along Incheon's waterfront, 40 miles from Seoul and just 7 miles from Incheon International Airport. Developed by Gale International and Korea's POSCO E&C, this master-planned metropolis is a model of sustainable, city-scale development and innovation. The first phase of the new international city is scheduled to open in August 2009.

  • Zero Carbon City
  • The Masdar Initiative is an environmental urban ambition by Foster + Partners to develop a sustainable city. They recently released these beautiful images of their conceptual walled city where residents would enjoy a carbon and waste-free environment. The 6 million square metre project is based on the principles of an ancient walled city, combined with modern alternative energy technologies. The mixed-use, high density city will include a University, Innovation Center, Company Headquarters and several economic zones.

  • Gujarat International Finance Tec-City or GIFT
  • India is working on Gujarat International Finance Tec-City or GIFT which is an under-construction world-class city in the Indian state of Gujarat. It will come up on 500 acres (2.0 km2) land.[8] It will also be first of its kind fully Sustainable City. The site is located on the bank of river Sabarmati is about 12 kms. from Ahmedabad International Airport and 8 kms. from Gandhinagar. GIFT will have easy access from all directions through 4 - 6 lane state and national highways. The site has geographical coordinates as 23¡ã9'26''N 72¡ã41'12''E.
