Wang Yuqing
Former Deputy Director of the State Environmental Protection Administration
Wang Yuqing was born in November 1945 in Hebei Province. He graduated from the Biology Department of Beijing University in 1970, and held master degree in law from Wuhan University in 1993.
He started to work in the national environment protection organizations in 1978, and held the positions of division and department chiefs successively. He was the deputy director of the State Environmental Protection Administration from 1994-2006, and concurrently the director of the National Nuclear Security Bureau from 2004-2006. He was the member of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and the deputy director of the Population, Resources and Environment Committee. He served as the executive councilor of Chinese Society of Eco-economics and Chinese Society of Birds, and the vice chairman of the 4th National Committee of the Chinese People and Biosphere.
Presently he is the office director for the leading group of the first national survey of polluting sources in China under the State Council, chairman of the 6th Council of China Society for Environmental Sciences, vice president of China Wildlife Protection Association, vice chairman of Chinese Urban Science Research Institution, and the member representing China on the Asia-Pacific Forum on Environment and Development (APFED).
He organized and participated in the compilation of the 7th, the 8th and the 11th Five Year National Plan for Environment Protection, organized the compilation of some important national reports and environmental regulations. Many of his papers were published in magazines and journals such as AMBIO of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and Environmental Sciences in China. He has long been engaged in study and formulation of environmental laws, regulations, policies and plans, and won various important national prizes for his research and work.
