Mr. Fang Jingyun is now serving as Changjiang Scholarship Professor & Director of Ecology Dept., College of Environmental Sciences, Peking University; Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Academician of Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS).Besides, he is Vice President of Ecological Society of China and Subeditor of <Frontiers in Ecology and Environment> published by Ecological Society of America (ESA). In 1995, he was selected for “Talent Project in the New Millennium” held by Labor & Personnel Dept. He is also the winner of the 1st Prize of Nature & Science Award issued by Ministry of Education of China and 2nd Prize of National Nature & Science Award. In 2005, he was selected as Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was awarded with “Changjiang Scholar Achievement Award” (2006) and “He Liang He Li Science & Technology Achievement Award” (2007) as well.
Mr. Fang’s research mainly focuses on Ecology of vegetation, Global Climate Change and Biological Plant Geography. He has established a series of research methods to study terrestrial vegetation and coal reserves in China, and has exhaustively researched on the ecological changes in Changjiang River Basin in the recent 5 decades. In 1955, he participated in first Chinese scientific expedition to the arctic regions, where he carried out the research in Canadian creatures, frozen soil and climate at high altitudes. Besides, he has published more than 180 theses, including more than 40 important international journals, 2 of which were published in Science Magazine. Awarded with Special Government Allowance (1995), Mr. Fang is also the winner of “National Science Foundation for Distinguished Youth Scholar” (1994). |
