Design

In our proposal, the area is considered as a whole and is developed based on generating perspectives open to the historical inner city. By emphasizing direct visual connections, the site will have a strong ‘Gent’ character. The concurrent geometric parcelling, straight on the canal, results in opening strategic zones and thereby deterring a backside condition.

As the waterfront is the key amenity to the site, it was important to establish the first phase of the plan and the position towards the waterfront thus creating a strong connection inclusive of the entire area without creating a backside condition. However, the plan keeps enough flexibility so that future developments are not impeded.
