A city is the hope for economic and social development, as well as the bed for all kinds of social problems and contradictions. Based on globalization and mechanization, the urbanization process has brought many development opportunities for every country. Meanwhile, it has deepened the problems of environmental pollution, resources shortage and social inequity. Under this background, “Green Transportation”, “Ecological City” and other new concepts on urban development have got the attention from all the state governments day by day. Each country has also given a greater study on green traffic and city ecological environment for finding ways out for Two-Wins of both protecting the ecological environment and city development, thus building up cities with suitable environment for human habitat. The issues of how to build up a green system of transit travel in the process of urbanization, how to protect the city ecological environment, as well as to construct habitable and ecological cities have already become the predominant topics gradually.
For this, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, P.R. China, co-sponsored with People’s Government of Hebei Province, P.R. China, together with both domestic and foreign governmental organizations, social groups and academic bodies with the same aims, will hold the “2008 International Forum on Urban Development and Planning and the 1st Expo on Urban Planning and Construction in Hebei Province, China” on June 19th-21st, in Langfang, Hebei Province.
