Already ranking one of the most influential conference in urban planning and design area in China, the Conference on Urban Development and Planning was first hosted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, P. R. China in 2006, until 2011 it has been successfully held annually for six times, with great supports from domestic and foreign governments, and has been seeing dramatic growth in scale and impact year after year. Now the conference has attracted more than 6000 participants in total, among which consists of officials, experts and scholars from governments of China, Britain, the United States, Germany, Singapore etc., and related organizations and companies in and abroad. The themes of the annual event evolves from “Extract Experience and Lessons from the Pioneer Countries Urbanization, and Promote the Construction of Energy-Efficient and Environmental-Friendly Society”(2006), “The Urban Culture Transformation, the Preservation of Famous Historic and Cultural Cities and The Cultivation of Innovative Culture in the Era of Globalization” (2007), “Ecological City-Our Common Home”(2008), “Harmony & Ecology: Sustainable Cities”(2009), “The Transformation of Urban Development Model in China——Ecological, Low-carbon and Digital City”(2010) to “Low-carbon Transition and Green Development of Cities”(2011).
